Collection: AAKS
A A K S is a brand from Ghana, founded by designer Akosua Afriyie-Kumi. Its mission is to bring the weaving skills of local women, whom she admires, to the world, and to promote ethical production and sustainable consumption.
All A A K S bags are handcrafted in Ghana.
They are characterized by designs that incorporate vibrant colors and traditional weaving techniques into modern silhouettes.
The brand's core principles are exquisite craftsmanship, ethical and sustainable production, and high quality that cannot be found in mass production.
Akosua herself is involved in every step of the production process, maintaining a consistent aesthetic for the brand.
In small villages in Ghana, women gather in the shade of baobab trees, weaving colorful raffia. The weaving technique created by their fingertips is the origin of A A K S.
Bags are hand-woven from raffia, lined with linen or cotton, and finished with leather. It takes about 10 days to complete, and each piece has a unique character.
The raffia used as material is harvested by Ghanaian family farmers in an environmentally friendly manner.
Excess materials are not wasted and are utilized for small items and accessories. The colors created by a unique dyeing process change every season, creating a charm that is unique to A A K S.
